The Production and Applications of Molybdenum Plate

Molybdenum metal has very wide applications due to its good characteristics of corrosion resistance and high abrasion resistance. In the glass melting industry, molybdenum electrode is used to melt glass; in the automotive industry, MoS2 is an additive for solid grease; molybdenum target is used in the electronics and semiconductor industries.

Material from 2mm to 76mm in thickness is classified as molybdenum plate. It can be used in in a diverse array of applications including precision sputtering targets, machining blanks, furnace hearth rails, x-ray shielding, nuclear fuel sintering boats, and others.

How to produce molybdenum plate? The following is its production process:

Blank molybdenum plateinspectionhot rollingannealing alkali cleaninginspectionwarm rollingannealinginspectioncold rollingannealinginspectionpacking.

In the rolling process, starting from the billet rolling, the rolled piece undergoes plastic deformation under the action of the rolling force, resulting in work hardening. In the subsequent hot and warm rolling, usually one heating is accompanied by multiple passes, so that the two opposite processes of hardening caused by processing and softening of recovery recrystallization exist at the same time, that is, dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization occur; and the deformation is interrupted.

Or the recovery and recrystallization that occur in the annealing, heat preservation process and subsequent cooling after termination are static recovery and static recrystallization, which are mainly reflected in the cold rolling stage. For rolled products or as raw materials for subsequent drawing, stamping and other processes, the process parameters in the rolling process determine the quality, performance and application of the plate itself.

After the blank plate is rolled with a deformation of more than 60%, its density is basically close to the theoretical density of molybdenum. Therefore, the product has high strength, uniform internal structure and excellent high temperature creep resistance.

In addition, due to good thermal conductivity, in the process of using and working, the plate works steadily in cold or high temperature. Now good electrical conductivity has become an essential characteristic of material used in the electronic and electric equipment manufacturing industry.

Fine-grained Molybdenum Copper Alloy Production

Molybdenum Copper is kind of a false alloy which is make of two immiscible metals molybdenum and copper, having many good performance , such as high electrical and thermal conductivity, low and adjustable thermal expansion coefficient, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high strength and so on. It is widely used in electrical electronics, instrumentation, military, aerospace and other fields, primarily as a vacuum contact, conductive cooling components, instrumentation components, high temperature components of missile or rockets, high-temperature furnace cooled electrode tip, EDM electrodes be used in these fields. It has broad application prospects.

However, due to molybdenum and copper is immiscible, using conventional preparation process it is difficult to meet the higher requirements of new applications area. Through experiments using sol- spray drying - calcining - Hydrogen reduction method can produce good performance fine-grained molybdenum copper alloy and to explore new application areas of molybdenum-copper alloy provides a prerequisite.

Fine-grained molybdenum copper alloy production processes are as follows:

1.Using ammonium paramolybdate (NH4) 6Mo7O24·4H2O and copper nitrate Cu (NO3)· 3H2O as raw material to make up sol by molybdenum 70%, copper 30% (mass fraction) ratio formulation.

2. The sol after spray dried to obtain a composite salt precursor powder.

3. Precursor powder after 450℃sintered, processing hydrogen reduction can obtain ultrafine molybdenum-copper composite powder.

4. The powder was pressed under 400MPa pressure into the sample blanks. And then pre-sintered the blanks at 850 ℃, after sintered and heat preservation can obtain molybdenum-copper alloy.

Experimental results show that the sintering temperature during the preparation, the time and the oxygen content of the powder has a great influence on the properties of the molybdenum copper alloy. Sintered at 1050 ~ 1200 ℃, the material can be quickly densification; heat preservation  for 60 minutes after sintering at 1050 ℃, the relative density of the alloy can reach more than 90%. And the size of grain is fine, fibrous tissue distribution, the tensile strength can reach 755MPa, elongation of 6.41%.
