Types of Molybdenum Crucibles Manufactured by Different Processes

Molybdenum is a refractory metal known for its excellent strength at high temperatures, high melting point of 2610 ℃, and high corrosion resistance. This high melting point makes molybdenum ideal for use as evaporation boats or crucibles, and for processing nuclear fuel pellets at temperatures up to 1650°C. products made of molybdenum are durable enough to withstand repeated rough handling.

Molybdenum will not oxidize to any significant degree below 400 ℃ in air or an oxygen-containing atmosphere. At 400 ℃ and above, molybdenum oxide forms and begins to sublime. It is recommended that for high temperature applications, except for brief periods of time, fusion should be performed in a vacuum or an inert atmosphere. The crucible can then be heated to approximately 1700°C.

The crucible is made of molybdenum powder, and the operating temperature is 1100℃~1700℃. Its high corrosion resistance to most acids and many molten materials makes it ideal for the metallurgical, mechanical and rare earth smelting industries. They can withstand vacuum thermal evaporation, nuclear fuel sintering, and capacitor sintering; can be used in LED sapphire crystal growth and chemical industries; and are increasingly used in evolving high-tech industries and crystal materials.

There are four main types of crucibles made by different processes:

1.Pressed and sintered crucibles

The powder is pressed and sintered into the final shape. They are one of the most popular types of crucibles.

2. Spin-formed crucibles

Large molybdenum plate blanks are hot spun formed to the specified product geometry

3. Milled crucibles

Material blanks are processed into final products. it is also very popular.

4. Riveting crucible

For large crucibles with thin walls, we recommend this kind of crucible.

What Are Types and Uses of Molybdenum Wires?

Molybdenum is a genuine all-rounder. For example, filament products are used in the lighting industry, semiconductor substrates for power electronics, glass melting electrodes, hot zones in high-temperature furnaces, and sputtering targets for flat panel displays. They are everywhere in our daily life.

As one of the most highly valued industrial metals, molybdenum material has a very high melting point and will not soften or expand much even under high pressure and temperature. Due to these characteristics, wires made of molybdenum have a wide range of applications, such as automotive and aircraft parts, electric vacuum devices, light bulbs, heating elements and high-temperature furnaces, printer needles and other printer parts.

There are many types of molybdenum wires, including pure moly wire, high-temperature molybdenum wire, molybdenum spray wire and molybdenum wire for EDM. Different types have different characteristics, and their uses are also different.

Pure molybdenum wire has high purity, and its surface is black. After alkali washing, it becomes white. With the characteristic of good electrical conductivity, it can be used as a part of light bulbs. For example, it is used to manufacture filament holders made of tungsten, lead wires for halogen bulbs, and electrodes for gas discharge lamps and tubes. This type of metal wire is also applied in aircraft windshields, where it acts as a heating element to provide defrosting function. In addition, it can be used to make electron tubes and power tube grids.

High-temperature molybdenum wire is also named molybdenum lanthanum wire. This molybdenum-based alloy is more popular than pure molybdenum because it has a higher recrystallization temperature, is stronger and more ductile after exposure to high temperatures. In addition, after being heated to above its recrystallization temperature and processed, the alloy forms an interlocking grain structure to help resist sagging and structural stability. Therefore, it is often used for high-temperature structural materials, such as printing pins, nuts and screws, halogen lamp holders, high-temperature furnace heating elements, and lead wires for quartz and high-temperature ceramic materials.

The molybdenum spray wire is mainly used for wear-prone automotive parts, such as piston rings, gearbox synchronization parts, gear selector forks, etc. A thin layer of coating is formed on the worn surface, which gives vehicles and parts good sliding properties coupled with excellent wear resistance.

While used for EDM, molybdenum wire can cut almost all conductive materials. This would include metals such as steel, aluminum, brass, titanium, and other types of aggregates and superalloys. The hardness of the material is not a factor in EDM machining.

As a professional manufacturer of tungsten and molybdenum with more than 20 years of production experience, Chinatungsten Online can provide all types of molybdenum wires mentioned above for use in various industries.

Types of Molybdenum Alloy

Molybdenum alloy is a nonferrous alloy consisting of other elements with molybdenum as the matrix. Types of molybdenum alloy include TZM and TZC alloys, MHC and ZHM alloys, molybdenum-tungsten alloy, molybdenum-rhenium alloy, MH and KW alloys.

TZM and TZC Alloys

TZM is an acronym for titanium-zirconium-molybdenum, and is typically manufactured by powder metallurgy or arc-casting processes. It is an alloy that has a higher recrystallization temperature, higher creep strength, and higher tensile strength than pure, unalloyed molybdenum. Available in rod and plate form, it is often used for hardware in vacuum furnaces, large x-ray equipment, and in creating tools. TZC alloy is using powder metallurgy and vacuum arc melting method of preparation. It may make space rockets flying devices and surface components, etc.

MHC and ZHM Alloys

MHC alloy is a particle-reinforced molybdenum alloy which contains hafnium and carbon. The carbon is uniformly distributed along the alloys structure giving it excellent heat and creep resistant properties at elevated temperatures of 1550°C (2822°F). This alloy is able to function under extreme mechanical and thermal loads. ZHM alloy, mass percentage of each component is zirconium 0.4 to 0.7, 1.2 to 2.1 hafnium, 0.15 to 0.27 carbon. Both TZM and MHC have found application as metalworking tool materials.

Molybdenum-tungsten Alloy

Molybdenum tungsten alloy has better corrosion resistance, making it better able to resist molten zinc. Molybdenum has a high melting point and high density, so tungsten-molybdenum alloy also has these characteristics. Molybdenum and tungsten alloy can have a different proportion of tungsten, such as 30% tungsten or 50% of tungsten.

Molybdenum-rhenium Alloy

Molybdenum-rhenium is a highly pure alloy containing only two elements (molybdenum and rhenium), and serves a wide range of applications in electronics, furnace, joining, and aerospace industries. Precise alloying of the refractory metals rhenium and molybdenum adds both ductility and strength to suit different specifications. It is a superconductive alloy with a noble surface chemistry and a relatively high transition temperature.

MH and KW Alloy

MH alloy adds potassium and sulfur elements with molybdenum as the matrix; KW alloy is a molybdenum alloy with potassium, silicon and other elements added in the molybdenum matrix.
